HISTORY Reaction Pictures was unofficially set up in early 2002 when our first film, Fear The Unknown, was finished. Before then, briefly, it was named Rebellion Motion Pictures for reasons forgotten. Reaction Pictures was originally the collaboration of myself, Alex Clough, and Adrian Whipp. Our first film, of about 15 minutes in length, was Fear The Unknown. Based around a bunch of young guys who slowly get killed off by a shadowy assassin, the film was the first step to what we have become today. However unoriginal the film was, it was great fun to shoot. After nearly £1000 had been thrown into the project (no east feat for a 16 year old, I have to say) the film was finished in February 2002, and was watched by at least... 20 people! In the summer of 2002, Adrian and myself went to shoot a video for a friends band, Andrew Porter, which was a cover of the Christina Auelera song, Genie in a Bottle. Imaginatively titled Gimp in a Bottle was our first attempt at special effects, using blue screen technology to create the illusion of someone dancing inside a glass bottle. Surprisingly for the time, it worked well, and the band seemed pretty impressed. We leater went on to shoot a live video for a friend named Howard Kenney, for his band Neverthought (before they all went their separate ways). Shot in the Marr's Bar in Worcester, it was edited in record time and delivered to the band. This band seemed similarly impressed. For a long time, especially in 2003, nothing really happened. Camera's broke, money went for beers, and I went off to university. After a troublesome year, the summer saw a glimmer of hope. Finding a box of old super-8mm home movies in my garage, I set about the auderous task of re-editing them, into some strange mess of music and moving image. The result can (or will very soon) be found the site. I named it Days That Have Passes... in case you were wondering. In the autumn of 2003, Adrian went to university, and I returned back to rainy Aberystwyth for my second year. My friend Ben Sadler showed some interest in making a film, and we set our hearts on making something dark, edgy, and not at all shit. We polished an old script I had called Phonecall over the Christmas hollidays. After many months of fixing this and rewriting that we were ready to go into production. Luckily, we found the right people pretty fast, assembled a rag-tag crew of friends, lovers and aqaintances and set about shooting our latest opus. And so we did. As I write it's about 75% mixed... better finish that sometime! And as for the future... two more films this summer, and at least one before the next... things are looking pretty damn cool right now. Hopefully they'll stay that way! |
